I'm just about that action Boss.

So I came across a great deal on a 4-1 Header for my tc. I grabbed it because it was from a local for pretty much nothing.

Got a couple parts to fix the cel that it will throw and such and slapped it on there. Well of course, I hear a buzzing noise coming from underneath/rear of car

So today I get under there and tighten up everything, and of course under heavy acceleration I can still hear the "weedwhacker" sound.

I get my girlfriend to rev it and drive it by, and it sounds beastly and a slight buzzing is coming from the rear, but not much. But inside it sounds like a weedwhacker.

I have a stock exhaust on it, and well I'm thoroughly disappointed. I'm probably going to pull the header and sell it on craigslist for a profit if I don't find out how to fix this buzzing noise.

Cliffs: Intake+Header=Weedwhacker

thats actually the exhaust making the noise,my boys car does it when he has the stock axleback on his car,but wont with an aftermarket tip,its because your trying to "push more, through a smaller are than designed"

I know. I'm depressed.

I always put a header on each of my hondas, and eventually had stock exhausts, and they sounded sweet. No rasp, real quiet. Now it buzzes like a fucking chock full ' o ' nuts can shaking some nuts and bolts around inside.

and I did some research before and after the install on scionlife, scion-tech, etc and well found out from you guys its my stock exhaust. :(

I could never figure out why people do header/s, it's one thing if you're doing a full blown N/A setup, but to gain a few HP..... just seems like a lot of labor for nothing, then again inline 4s are pretty damn easy to install a header on, check under the hood of the 350Z and you'll see why I ask this question so much.

Anywho, if you want your scion to sound good, IMO the only way to make a inline 4 sound good is to slap a turbo on it.

8 hours Jeffie..... thats what it takes 1 person to put headers on your car......... trust me...... its a joke.

I put the turbo on my car, and I could see 8 hours being about what it takes for the first time out.

In the end you gain.... 8WHP in a 350Z if you're lucky? What's funny is most people who do headers end up removing them within a year to go with boost.

My little bittie honda engine responded quite well to a header, but it also got a full exhaust and tune at the same time.

As for your scion issue, I'd say you need to think things through a bit better next time. Why do you think you got such a good deal on it? lol. The seller probably had the same issues as you're having right now.

I bet 90% of what you felt gain wise was from the exhaust and not the header....

The point is I didn't realize the exhaust tone after the header install would be raspy. My purchase was sound and thoroughly thought out besides the audible change the header would make on my car.

According to scion-tech all the headers do this to tc.

If it makes you feel any better, I feel that the 350Z with test pipes, headers and cat back exhaust sounds like chit.

adds a bit of rasp

Definitely understandable.

Header is coming off, even with the "performance gains", to me I can't handle the tone. I'll put an exhaust on before I do another header.

Its easy compared to some other mods, and some of the cheapest most reliable horsepower you can get. Bolt it up and forget about it. I've seen dyno charts of hondas that gained 11hp with a header. Thats pretty significant given a sub 200hp motor. Bump that to big bore V-8s and you can see 25-30hp from a simple bolt on.

RPW claims an 8hp gain over stock with their 4-1 street header that i have. even more so for the race version. on a stock motor.

I could see a 11hp gain, if your honda had a intake, racing cat, and full exhaust, at that point adding a header might net those gains, but installing nothing more then a header, I highly doubt (with out seeing a dyno to prove it) that it would get much more then 5 hp if even that
