ok,got my 91 rex running last night, car will start, and immediately jump to 2000 rpm.but after about 2-3 mins of running like this, idle drops, and then does the symptoms of a vac. leak, idle up,idle down, idle up etc.
motor is obd0 b18a1,car is 91 si,running on a obd0 pr4,no cel,nothing

Check the coolant level and make sure there were no air pockets or bubbles in the system?

What about the IACV and FITV? Check them yet? Are the gaskets good on your IM?

gaskets are new, bolts tightened well,i have to check the iacv and the fitv, but i dont know which is which, ill bleed the coolant again today

On the IM, under the TB, there should be a little plate with 2 screws on it. If you take the plate off and tighten the valve back up, it should fix your problem. More often than not, surging idles can be fixed by checking the coolant or adjusting the valve.

if not, take them off and clean them with throttle body cleaner.. Sometimes is the magic fix.. I'd almost bet on the iacv

ok thanx guys,i just went out and started it up,immdiately went to 3grand,slowly went down to 1100 and when it hit operating tmp. idle started surging

It is the fitv. I had the exact thing happen a month back. Take the cover with the 2 screws off and screw the valve back into the housing. Over time it works its way out, making the iacv always stay open.

the fitv has a goldish looking plate held down by two philips head screws.
unscrew one of those all the way, and the other one partially and just slide it around so you can use a flathead to screw the wax ring down.
screw the wax ring down on the fitv.
take of the iacv which is opposite the fitv and clean it with carb cleaner.

I have the same exact thing happenening. On the same year car and motor. It seems like when this happens something is putting pressure on my throttle cable. So I would just go move it around and it would simply stop. I dont know if this si the problem but it works.

I too have this very same problem. I just been dealing with it for right now but after seein this thread I will try it out and see. I had the opposite issue when I got the car. I would start the car I would have to let it run for 5-8mins. If I didnt then it would fluctuate the idle and almost die. But that problem worked its self out. Weird.

cleaned them both, and screwed in the white ring, car starts, idles at 2g then slowly drops to 800 and stays

your cable is either rusting up inside of the insulation, or like what green said, its either kinked or bent. You need to check your cable, but Injen's problem isnt the cable.

Good Job Injen. You found your "pucking gay" problem.

hanx guys, ill rep all i can,but why is my idle still at 2gand for a couple mins on startup?
