My friend and I put a H22 type S in a 96 accord, only throwing 1 code for temp sensor. But we tried a bunch of combos for the ckp and tdc sensors we have the right 4 wires coming out of the distributor and the right 4 wires coming off the wiring harness, but the car does not start. do those wires have to be hooked up right to start? or maybe one of the times we wired it wrong would have ruined a sensor? any help?

ya, it has spark, originally when we tried to start it the timing was way off, we got that fixed tho. the guy who we bought it from is a goon.

Well, if he really was that much of a goon, have you checked it for compression? Also, have you checked for fuel? The only reason I don't think it's one of the sensors is that you're only throwing a code for the temp sensor.

we checked for compression, and that was fine. and when we were trying different wire combos fire shot out the downpipe and sounded like "blup blup", but that was before we fixed the timing. but after the timing was fixed we got nothin. no pop, no fire. my friend switched the spark plug wires around, cause he said the firing order was off, and according to either helm's or chilton's it was. but the spark plug wires are all weird now. i'm starting to think, maybe the timing, not ignition timing, is way off. oh ya, we fixed the temp sensor, no code for that. ut now that we did all that messin around, when we check for codes, the light comes on really dim and just stays on. am i correct in my assumption?

Could be. It's tough to tell unless you tell us what the code your engine is throwing now.

I'd triple-check to make sure your plug wires are correct, that could be (one of) your problem.

ya, we're going back and just tripple checking everything.

hutton can u help me with the distributor wiring im stuck i have everything else done just my distributor help me out plz i have 96 ex accord wiring harness accord got this weird ass distributor plug because of obd2 94-95 has the same distributor plug as off my h22a distributor (obd1) plz help me out.. the car turns over but no ignite because distributor plug not hooked up

u say that your check engine light is dimming when u try to start it...what you should do is check your grounds and make sure they are clean grounds..that might help also

All the grounds are the same as before, the light is just dim when the key is on #2 position on ignition when trying to get codes. Instantnoodles i sent you an e-mail back, if you need anymore help, post it. Wire colors, ect.

hey,

im the guy workin on the accord/h22 with hutton and i had a thought. we did an obd2-obd1 conversion, which is the main reason that none of those distributor wires match up. ie obd2 accord harness onto an obd1 engine. but will an obd2 distributor work? i read another post about a guy who's cyp was fried and that caused him not to throw any codes. that could be the case here, and if so, it might just be easier to go with an obd2 distributor so that those wires match up nicely. catch my drift anyone? just curious if anyone knew for sure if they were compatible.

hi i did some researching i narrow my problem down pretty good prelude obd2 is equiped with the same as obd1 distributor so that won't work thanks for advice tho. i kno for fact all my wiring are done correct... i don't get no spark tho the engine turns over but no spark.....its either my obd2 to obd1 harness don't work or my ecu is fried or my distributor is fried... but im still thinking that its the damn obd2 to obd1 harness unfortnately i bought a cheap WEAPON R obd2 to obd1 adapter instead of the 300 buck skunk2.. well any ways how u guys change over from obd2 to obd1?... i have a chart that shows me how to convert obd2 to obd1 but i would need to do ecu pin outs but i can't find a place that sells the pins... how do i check if my ecu is fried or distributor is not working?

ps im new to this sry if ive been hassling you hutton and hutton's friend i never did anything to my car but put springs on so im pretty much a newbie and swaping a motor is my 2nd thing i ever did...the part i thought was easy is hard but the part i thoguht was hard was easy pulling motor out and mounthing it is very very easy... wiring/ electronics is really hard... thnx for all your help youve been very helpful

in my research of this problem, i've come across a few other people with the problem. but in comparing pictures of the two different distributors, i see different plugs and different wires. so double check your research. i still havent ruled it out as an option.

i dont know why you wouldnt be gettin spark. look into gettin a new ignitor or rotor. if you replace those and still dont have spark then its either your wiring, the conversion harness, or the ecu. i doubt itd be your harness. double check your distributor wiring. that black/yellow wire is important. in the process of my wiring, that came undone and i was stumped for a good hour. i dont even know what brand my conversion harness is. i bought mine from a guy on a web board for 125 bucks. converting that distributor wiring to obd1 is the last thing i have to do. then the damn car will run.
im not sure how to check if your ecu if fried. are you throwin any codes? if so, i'd say its doubtful that your ecu is fried.

dont worry bout the harrassment. im glad to help anyone who asks. while i have basic engine knowledge, this is my first swap too. every swap is different and everyone runs into problems. everyone who replies to my posts is usually quite helpful. its time i return the favor.

update on the distributor swapping: you were correct. apparently the obd2 distributor doesnt contain the same ckp, cyp, and tdc sensors that the obd1 distributor does.

but i got and email back from a guy with the correct wiring. and while i can't verify that its correct "(im at college right now, car is at home)....heres the info he gave me:

crank---->distributor
------------------------

green--->orange/blue
red------>white/blue
blue----->blue/green
white---->blue/yellow
yellow--->orange
black---->white

maybe that will help some

thnx for the info...i double check my wiring with what u gave me... i do have that part correct... the distributor is correctly wired up for sure i kno... theres only yellow/black, blue, yellow/green... yellow/black goes to ignition coils, blue goes to tach, yellow/green goes to the ECU A22 the reason i think its my obd2 to obd1 harness becuase the yellow/green that runs from distibutor goes to A22 in h22 ECU but my obd2 to obd1 harness doesn't have a wire on A22. on prelude ecu A22 and A21 is for ignition... a22 is secondary ignition a21 is primary this what i think secondary ignition send output to distributor to tell it to spark once u turn the key to start, and A21 is for when u turn the key to on it lights up everything turning on all electric components prepping for start(from what a mech told me i tried to explain it the best of my knowledge)..A21 is relayed to A22 somewhere down the line but A22 needs to be hooked up to distributor but my harness is wired.. where the green/yellow from distributor goes to A21 instead of A22 and than A21 is connected to A22 thats what my diagram says
sry if im confusing you.. im tyrin to explain in short terms.. if you want me to explain again in diff words... i'll get into the details... if any one can hook me up wit 96-97 accord ex ECU pin diagram that would really be helpful. sry im really tight on $ no money for helms manual... i spent 2500 for motor, 450 forclutch, 300 for flywheel, 200 for headers, 200 obd2 to obd1 adapter im already past my budget
