D16Y8 to D15B Engine Swap Issue

Kevin & Freak, Just out of curiosity... I was gonna run the car for a while as is, without changing the ecu, and monitor gas mileage. If gas mileage is sufficient, I was thinking of letting it go and just buying a code reader to check it every now and then for "other than knock" sensor codes...

D16Y8 to D15B Engine Swap Issue

Well guys, it turned out to be the four hole difference between the DB16Y8 manifold and the DB15 head was what caused the whole problem. In fact, the vacuum from the holes caused the manifold gasket to fail, so when I sprayed carb cleaner near it was very easily detectable...thanks freak. Ended...

D16Y8 to D15B Engine Swap Issue

So, what were the symptoms that led you to finding these "hole" differences? I'll try switching the TPS/MAP sensor plugs first, the knock sensor "trick" second and plugging the holes third. I'll update you when I find the cause. Thanks Kevin & freak, for all your help!

D16Y8 to D15B Engine Swap Issue

Okay, I have an update...a rather embarrassing one! I just now found out from the shop that the D15B intake manifold and throttle body assembly was all swapped (for the D16Y8 assembly) at the time of the engine swap. I don't know if I'm more embarrased about starting this thread with the...

D16Y8 to D15B Engine Swap Issue

And I thank you for that! I'm not a guy looking to race or hot rod this civic...just want to get the swap engine to function properly at the least cost. Please note, the buckling/stall-like circumstance only occurs when I put a lload on it below the current idle rpm, i.e., when i shift into...

D16Y8 to D15B Engine Swap Issue

Okay, it's sinkin in what you are saying, but other's have said that the ecu's do process the signals differently, i.e., the D15B doesn't have a knock sensor, right? So with the D16Y8 ecu not getting a knock signal, would that somehow affect the way the engine is behaving?

D16Y8 to D15B Engine Swap Issue

Sorry Kevin, but you lost me on 95% of what you said. The one thing you wrote that struck a chord is this... I'm certainly not the sharpest "tool in the shed", but what makes sense to me is if I replace the existing D16Y8 ecu (P2P) with the the ecu that is made for the D15B (P08) then there...

D16Y8 to D15B Engine Swap Issue

Don't know the code, but shop says the CEL = knock ...but there may be other codes they haven't disclosed. I don't know what the shop did with CKP? One question... Why do all that, i.e., TPS, MAP, oil pump, throttle body, etc., when it would all be taken care of by swapping for P08 ecu...the...

Would it make more sense to just swap harnesses to obd1?...or is that not worth the effort?

D16Y8 to D15B Engine Swap Issue

    o $hit, the D15B dizzy & injectors won't work? It's running now with the P2P ecu and obd2 harness?!?! ...no, I don't have an obd1 harness.

D16Y8 to D15B Engine Swap Issue

Sorry for more stupid questions hondafreak, guess I'm just hard-headed and I want to make sure I got this right: 1) I need an obd1>obd2 harness conversion in order to use the existing obd2 harness with the P08 (obd1) ecu, correct? 2) When you said "it won't matter if the motor and harness is...

D16Y8 to D15B Engine Swap Issue

...thought of something else: If I need a P08 ecu, which is for a 92-95 D15B JDM (the engine I just swapped for), wouldn't everything be obd1, and no need for a conversion harness? ...or is a P08 ecu obd2?

D16Y8 to D15B Engine Swap Issue

Okay Matt, here's an update: With IACV plugged in, engine does as described before: cycles between 1600-1800 @ ~1 Hz With IACV unplugged, engine rpm dropped to a steady 1200'ish. So by yours (& hondafreak's) account, this means the IACV is working, but not properly, i.e., a P08 ecu with with...

Thanks hondafreak! I'm gonna go and unplug the IACV now to confirm Matt's theory.

Well, I guess I'm too new, with insufficient admin rights, to upload images, but here's a pic of an engine I found on google images that looks very similar to my solenoid setup:

D16Y8 to D15B Engine Swap Issue

Sorry...should have been more specific. As I understand, there's 3 different variants of vtec... 1) power-vtec (single stage) 2) vtec-e (2-stage) 3) 3-stage vtec (a merging of the earlier VTEC-E and power-VTEC variants) ...the (2-solenoid) picture you show, which variant would that one be...
