1988 CRX DX 1.5L 8 flashes

Picked up a 1988 CRX with the 1.5L which was not running. Distributor was janky as the rotor wobbled and was covered in oil. Replaced spark plugs, spark plug wires, fuel and air filter, also replaced distributor purchased from amazon. Motor runs fine, except check engine light is on, and receiving 8 quick flashes (TDC position?) Timing Belt and water pump is next. Any help on what to check to clear the Check engine light would be appreciated. Thanks

not an uncommon problem with a lot of aftermarket distributors - they seem to have the internal wiring amiss - wires running to the wrong sensors- try this:
