I've gotten 49k out of the OEM tires, mostly due to my ability to not drive in bad weather.
If i had to drive in the snow I would have gotten new tires before last winter.

So the question is do I replace with OEM, or get something else.
I'd like some with decent life, and not too much road noise. The traction isn't as much of a concern now, other than safety.
The Rav4 isn't really a performance inspired ride.

OE is Dunlop Grandtrek PT20 - TireRack.com price is 189.99

I can get snows in the $130-140 range, but then I need all seasons after winter.

Long term I intend to buy the XLE Premium 19s for 3 season use, and keep my stock 17's for snow tire use.
Hard to pull the trigger on the 19s now that I don't really need to drive in the snow if I just move my appointments when there is bad weather.

decent life + not too much road noise is the exact opposite of a snow tire :D

If you can, avoid 19s. tires are twice as much in 19 vs 18 or 20 for some reason. the gen and the m3 had 19s and it sucked. when we got my wife's volvo, we paid extra for the 20s.

IMO, throw a set of all seasons on the 17s and call it a day.
we have these on the volvo i think, Def Pir Scorpions, but not sure if this is the actual model.
cheaper than OE and a MUCH higher tread ware rating.

 
should be able to get 18s on a rav, no? maybe from a 4runner?
 
The 19's seem to run about $45-$70 more per tire, on TireRack.com, depending on brand.
It was the main reason I got the XLE and not the XLE Premium. I wanted to keep the maintenance as low as possible.
But I just fell in love with the look of those 19 inch premium wheels.
I will probably never buy them, unless they come down in price a bunch over time.

I got a set of CRV EX wheels with snow tires for maybe $400-600 bucks - which is how I ended up with a set of snows, and a set of 3 seasons.

The Dunlops have a 360 treadwear and B traction.
Those Micehlin's look nice and have a 620 treadwear and AA for traction and temp.
The Pirelli has a 800 AA, and looks reasonable for light snow if needed.
 
Wife has These on her CX-9. Pretty spendy but so far so good. They're OEM.

I'm going to upgrade her wheels to 20s when she needs new tires and get these same ones.
 
Take a look at the Michelin crossclimate2
They seem to be an all season that has the capability of actually working in the snow
I was looking at them when I needed tires to replace what was on my Golf
Ended up going a different route, but a good portion of that was vanity and aesthetics, not necessarily performance related

I have had good luck with Cooper's had the cs5on the wife's car and they were good. I have been running them on my truck for since bought it. Working construction I have had a ton of screws in my tires. I have never pull any out and never had a flat.
 
I was wrong. The tires we love are these. Not cheap. Geolandar H/T.

My bro has the others on his cx-5 and not super stoked on them.


Speaking of new tires....
I'm actually at 50k on my truck and the tires are now breaking lose 24/7. Tread depth looks okay, about 40% but feels like 5% now in the rain and 20% in the dry. Thinking of getting the Goodyear Ultraterrain in a slightly larger size. Unfortunately, I just ran into many unforeseen expenses and might need to wait. We'll see....

I'll try that. Last two days I commuted to the office and it definitely wiggles under any thing >1/4 throttle acceleration. Thanks.
 
Called my local guy this week, and he recommended some Cooper tires, so I had him order them.
Could have saved some money going through TireRack.com but I figure I'll help his small business.
Having them put on next week.
 
Cooper's are pretty good. a local shop here promotes them all the time too.

They are either really good, or he makes a ton of margin on it :)

Not trying to shit in your thread Recked...

Welp. Couple times straight spinning in the rain on the slightest grade even with a couple sand bags in the bed, I bit the bullet. Wife was getting annoyed with me being annoyed.

Discount negotiated and I got $200 off. Went up a half size. Now same size as the 2021 F150 factory size. 275/60R20. Will have to update the specs in Forscan as the speedo is dead on and doesn't have the 1-2MPH factory buffer Id like. Also need to reset the transmission to relearn too. Not sluggish but 12% heavier tire. Full Alignment scheduled too at next oil change.

Goodyear Ultraterrain. So far ride pretty quiet. Great traction so far. Rain traction is phenomenal. Some faint low speed vibrations I'm hoping will be cleared up with an alignment or I forget about.

We got a code white today. 8inches or so and coming down. Didn't even need 4wd around the neighborhood. Really awesome traction.
