Is there a truly free ECU programming setup?

So I know that Uberdata doesn't cost anything but it is not really free. I know that some people have used it without problems but it makes me nervous to use software to tune an investment like a car where I have no recourse. With Hondata, at least I have paid for it and we have some kind of contract covering mistakes they make (not counting problems created by mis-tuning). Is there a product out there that does the same thing where the source code is available?

i dont think there is an open source tuning solution, but crome is a great freeware program that will really allow you to tune your car. Its only downside is it wont let you datalog for free.

hondata is definitely not free....dont know what you are talking about.

If I am going to go with a closed source solution, I am going to pay Hondata so I have someone to hold accountable if there are software problems. Unfortunately that means I have to run Windows on a laptop, I wonder if Hondata works under Wine...

crome FTW. uberdata sucks. I hate that program.

so long as you don't need datalogging, there's no need to pay for crome pro.
