sup peoples..i heard that when JDM engines are exported..the japan laws requires these engines to be under a certain mileage..i heard it has to be under 50k..now i know what shop got the motor and installed it.does it all depend on who there engine supplier is?...cuz i see some ads from Shops (ARD) for example that states there engines are low mileage..usually around 30k...so how do they know..or how do we know how many miles are them..lol..i dunno how much truth there is to the LAW thing..anybody have any info to ad..

based on what the timing belt looked like on my engine when i replaced it before i did my swap, it looked like my jdm engine w/ 30K (lol) had closer to 45K on it.

this was based on my father's inspection, and he has owned his own japanese car repair shop for 20 years. so i tend to believe him when he tells me things about foreign engines

shit..must be nice havin Papa Dukes the expert on your side..lol..j/k..your lucky...yeah i guess we (rice burners) really dont know exactly how many miles are on the engine..but i guess we gotta think of it this way..if our engines come with at least 45-50 k on them..thats still pretty good..cuz i know why i love hondas..there some strong ass durable engines..(if you take care of them)...now 45-50k on a domestic..SSSHHHIITTTT...thats 50% of that engines life gone..lol..sry mestics..but i am IMPORTS threw and threw..

It all depends on how you take care of it. My dad ran his 97 Chevy Ext. Cab. truck to over 220K miles before it EVER needed rebuilt and that was without any complications. The Chevy 350 small block will last forever, if taken care of.

i cant understand that..i know that not ALL domestics suck..ill give ya some credit though..you got some ballz with your sig and avatar..being that the website is called..HONDASWAP.com..i didnt really expect to much smack..but its cool..cuz were all talkin bout one thing mostly..CARS..

That's cool. I was proving your "40-50k miles is 50% of the domestics life" wrong.

90% of the people on this board want something faster then a honda. Many want a firebird/camaro b/c of the tq. Some want 240sx's. Honda's are NOT the premier car like many ppl jump on here and think. I am not calling you one of those people.

Balls with my sig and avatar? Sig is a song, avatar i made b/c i have the "fuck you" attitude to people i dont like. I dont see anything wrong with it. I like fast cars, being it a honda, nissan, dsm, camaro, ford.. it doesn't matter. I like cars, not just one brand. I am also really into mini-trucks, i use to own one. I love the show scene for TRUCKS, I think honda's are beyond played out on the show scene and show cars are pointless. (sry tpp :)).

EDIT - 1000th post y0

thats cool Dome..i am kinda new..and i guess i figured the main subjects would be Hondas...but i dont think anything is played out..and i dont give a shit if it is..i jus love HONDAS man..dont get me wrong..i like different types of cars..i give respect to FAST cars..but there no replacement for displacement...except for TECHNOLOGY..

i have owned 2 Honda Civics that i fixed up and really enjoyed them. i even got into a magazine with one :) they are good cars to own BUT now-a-days its getting really boring to see a fixed up Honda because they are everywhere with the same mods done over and over again (hence the reason i call em "cookie cutter cars"). yeah they look nice and all, but the thing with Hondas is that they are so damn easy to work on...theres no challenge to them what-so-ever....sorry guys but its the truth  anyways, now i own a 1993 Ford Escort GT that has a Mazda engine it that i really like. i got alot of plans for the car and its going to be pretty badass when i am done with it. i will say that it WILL get turboed OR a motor swap done to it from its JDM cousin the GTX (1.8L DOHC 180hp turbo stock :) ) this car is a HUGE challenge since most parts are either: hard to find, over in Japan or Australia, come off a 1.6L DOHC Mazda Miata (same engine only smaller), or expensive. i need the challenge and to me a Honda is not very challenging...again sorry fellas but i do like them alot!

so the question is prolly why i am here? well i help out with questions about body modifications (in case people have some) that may arise and any other things that i might know and answer...hell i still dont know much about Honda engines but i like to learn. basically i like all cars and as long as it looks clean and performs well then thats all i care about.

thats exactly what i think.. i've actually thought about selling my accord and buying a car with a v8, which has more factory speed and less 'fans' so to say; but i just cant part with the accord.

IMO the 35K miles or less thing is BS,since they cut the cut motors out as fast as they can who's to say.My B16 was from a 93 and had 75K miles on it and Germany isn't a big country,Japan isn't huge I'm just saying that the shear number of motors sent here and the fact that the motors are between 5 and 15 years old makes me believe the numbers don't match up.Anyway I have had seven Hondas and four domestics the dom's all took a dump on me (except 77 Ford Granada),Honda have always lasted till I sold them.I love driving my mom's v8 Camaro,it's powerful and fun,but I like my hatch more, better milage, more room and the highspeed tailgate :D .

There is no Japan law. The motors have hardly any miles because people in Japan buy new cars every 2 or so years. You do find some motors with higher miles, but that is because the importer wants to get higher milaged motors b/c they cost less to him, he can sell higher to you. Since the demand for JDM has gotten so huge, its hard to find true 35k-40k miled motors, unless you know an importer personally.

I dont know about that, I've read in a lot of places that in Japan there is a heavy tax if you keep your engine over a certain amount of miles (30k i think). That is why there is such a high number of the engines available and usually around 35k to 45k mi. They buy new cars so often because it is cheaper than paying the tax. Japanese officials believe that engines older than this contribute a lot to air pollution, hence the law and the dumping (& abundancy) of the engines.
