So, yeah, I picked up this thing. It's awesome.

I bought it, put new tires on it, a new clutch (has 113k miles) in, and it's awesome. I'll replace the valve cover gaskets here this week too.

Oh, I paid almost nothing for it, and it's totally roadworthy. I've been riding it to work for the past couple weeks.

Love it! It’s like a retro version of my dads concours.

Needs matching trailer and helmet mics with wind screens
So, it has a 1-7/8" and 2" hitch balls, and I can use my existing trailer on it. I'm gonna try it sometime, might be interesting, I may try towing a motorcycle or dirt bike on the trailer at some point.

For helmets, nah. I've got a good road helmet I like, AGV K1 2015 Christmas Test:

It's nice and visible, more so with the mirrored visor, and the bluetooth headset (Cardo PackTalk Bold) fits the need for intercom/music/phone integration.

I had to get a new clutch installed, which kinda sucked as much as replacing an oil pump in a d/b series while the engine is in the chassis...

One on the left is the one that was slipping under application of more than 3/8 throttle (known when I bought it):

I put in new clutch frictions, and replaced the whole pack with a newer used one:

From start to finish, including cobbling together a fixture for the shop press, took about 3 hours. It's not a typical motorcycle clutch, it's more like an automatic transmission clutch using a spring-washer and not coil springs.

I figure the previous owners (all three) got their money's worth out of the clutch, it had 113k on it, and had never been replaced before. Here's some proof:

The mufflers had been lopped off when I got it, so while sounding like a 90's naturally aspirated subaru was cool, it was too loud for me. Thankfully the previous owner kept the pieces he lopped off, so it was easy to just weld them back on.

Anyway... It's a fun bike. It's not as fun as the Grom-Clone I have with a 212.25cc engine in it, but it's definitely all of the good parts and none of the bad of riding a motorcycle.

The plan is to start commuting on it, whenever we start going back to work full-time.

flip flop mechanic.

enjoy your toes while they last :D
I was barefoot for a while. ;)

When working on this bike, nothing is more than a couple inches off the ground, since the entire engine isn't more than a foot off the ground -- Low risk for foot-related injuries. However, yeah, I do switch to steel toe insulated work boots when the situation requires. ;)

I wanted to hop on it and take a ride immediately after finishing, but I would have had to put real pants on.

thats too funny... i wear slides most of the summer. in and out of the garage. whateverrr it's just toes? :)

I've been riding it around a bit, here and there. Making grocery runs and the such.

It gets a lot better fuel economy without a slipping clutch. Even while being kinda hard on and off the throttle, it's getting 35mpg.

It's wild how nimble this bike is, despite being huuuge.

Well, put some more miles on it. 38.43 MPG now, with a pretty long stint on the highway at "highway speeds"...

I really like this bike. A lot.

I added some "Highway Pegs" but I'm not 100% on the location, I may have to move them more forward and/or down.

I really appreciate the helmet shot in the kids room.

Dude: Tries helmet on and does selfie.
Wife:
Dude: I was just .....
Wife: Don't care!

Past two tanks:
36.50 MPG
37.69 MPG

I'm getting more comfortable on it, and getting more confident with throttle application, so I suspect it'll stay right around 36/37 for the future.

And what's a thread without pictures?
