If oslama is pres we will have little buzzing electrical cars that our parents can remote control.

I already told you why it is being limited to 80. Some highways in the US have a speed limit of 75. Sometimes people just need to pass. Kids don't need to do 80+, ever.

Why give them the ability to travel at a speed higher than the speed limit? If traffic is doin 75 then they dont need to pass.

I drive through a school zone with a crossing guard every morning. EVERY morning. You have no idea how many people completely ignore the flashing yellow lights between 7 and 8:30 and 2 and 3:30... and I'm not talking about teenagers with that.

Then why target teens? Why not put this in everyones vehicle?

This key will limit kids from blaring music so they can't hear anything else around them and this key will limit kids from drag racing.

Things might be different in your area, but every illegal street race Ive ever seen from a dig barely makes 80 MPH. This chip wont stop that. Kids will just race to the limiter and shut down.

Honestly the only kids this will effect are the spoiled brats. Who can afford to buy their teen a new car? If it's a family car it'd work, but generally parents buy their kids some cheap pos, or let the kid buy themselves a cheap pos as their first car. If we're going to be talking about this, why not just make it mandatory to install a governor on all teens cars? It could be done for $200 per car I'm guessing.

Sure the governor could be put on any teens car, but do you really think the gear head high schoolers are gunna just accept the fact that they have a governor? I sure as hell wouldnt. Any thing that can be put on a car can be dissabled, and in most cases it can still look functional. That throws out any road side visual inspections from cops.

10 years from now these "cars" will be in kids hands as hand me downs.

Still the same case. If I got a governed car "handed down" to me, the first trip in it would to parts store to take care of that governor.

If you want to call parents 'lazy' because they're taking this extra step with a vehicle that limits their kids, then you're obviously not a parent with a teen who's driving. All this is is another tool for parents to use to keep their kids and the road safe.

+1

You can teach your child all the responsibility in the world, but adrenaline and the need to show off trump all at that age.

Now they need a short-range cell jammer. Hell, I wish I had one with a 500 foot range... I'd keep it on pretty much all the time.

Inexperience trumps it all. Teens who just started driving don't have the experience or skills necessary to make judgments on the road the way even a 20 year old might.

I agree, there are some horrid drivers out there of any age, but you can be a horrible driver and still not have had an accident for 10 years or more. There is a reason why a teenagers insurance rates are higher than a 25 year olds. They tend to speed no matter what, they tend to drive to fast no matter what zone they're in, and they don't have the experience to cope with the sudden happenings or how to avoid them.

Harder driving tests aren't going to do more than making parents drive their kids around more.

As far as the limit to 80. Sometimes there is a need to pass. 5-10 over the speed limit isn't the problem. It's the kids who race off a roll on the highway.

I was really hoping the key would limit throttle, but even teenagers need full throttle sometimes to maneuver shitty left turn situations.

They do make them...but they're illegal...

I could care less. Anything to get dumbassess off their cellphone while they're swerving around me. And I'm not talking about teenagers... these are soccer moms in SUVs that don't look before changing lanes because they're talking to hubby about what "rebel" thing their child did today.

I see what your sayin. I dont agree, but I understand your point.

As far as the harder drivin tests, Id much rather see a 23 year old person gettin carted around cause they couldnt pass their drive test than see em drivin like a tard. At least then I could have some faith in the driving skills of the person behind the wheel. Also, if all the ppl that couldnt handle a more difficult test were off the road, then the roads would be less crowded. More ppl would use public transportation, and pollution would be cut.

I agree with this system 100%. Its the first safety device since the airbag that protects ME from Darwin. Statistically speaking, the likelyhood of a someone getting into an accident before 25 are pretty high. I don't know of anyone who hasn't gotton into one.

why doesn't every car in america have a speed limiter to fit the local limit?
no more speeding tickets and tons of courthouses could be phased out.

...and we should teach our children the difference between "driving" and "operating a motor vehicle".

and what's the difference between the teen limiter and a valet key?

I dont see why everyone is bitching about this? Im sure people pissed and moaned about airbags, but they do save lives, so maybe this will too. Its not like its mandatory that every car on the road be fitted with this, only a few new cars. If it drops the teen accident rate, then it is obviously working, so what is the big deal? :dunno:

They have no reasone whatsoever to do more than 80 anyway, who cares?

I'd be all for an adjustable limiter. If they aren't supposed to leave town, set that biatch for 40mph.

Because the pigs make a TON of money off of speeding tickets. No speeding tickets, there goes a source of revenue.

^^^I hear that, until I got my radar detector I used to feed those parasites all the time.

1. One more reason not to buy a ford :p

2. I think a speed limiter for teens is a good thing to have, leaving it in control of the parents until they deem their kid fit to drive without restriction. Im sure it will be in many other cars sometime.

3. Throttle limiter shouldnt be in, because of the previous reasons, sometimes you need full out to get out of the way of something....

4. With our graduated licensing system teens are coming out and driving usually much better than experienced drivers, but lack the experience they have. So its half and half.

5. The new laws that are being enforced for speeding and racing etc should be enough of a deterrence. My speeding ticket taught me a lesson and i drive much more cautious now, also paranoid as hell, but it will pass soon enough.

6. Glad i own my own car and the only limiter on it is the speed the tires can hold.... lol.

I have mixed emotions on this. I think it'd be good for some drivers, annoying for responsible drivers.

I guess that's the chance everyone takes though, there's always going to be shitty drivers on the road.

id like a portable one that i could bring with me into a movie theater as well

I know what you're saying E. I fucking hate people that chat on their phones or text on them. Although I am guilty of texting in a theater before...I still hate it when other people do it xD. If I'm going to do it I sit in the back row and only do it in the commercials in the beginning.
