keep it crackin
i just purchased a 1989 honda crx a couple days ago. it is my new project car and im lookin for a fast accelerating high top speed car for cheep. i am willing to make compromises. what motor and tranny would be good? i was thinkin maybe an las motor with a b16 head for an ls vtec, sound good??? where could i get a motor in upstate new york?

well lets start at the bottom, whats your budget.and forget the cheap part if you want to go fast

Best bang for the buck in the CRX is probably going to be the H22. Fitment is tight, but it's a great swap for that car. It'll be fast enough for you.

Stick a small block V8 in that Rex! its an even tighter fit than the H22 but you wanna talk about speed for cheap! (disregard that, im just bored. Proceed.)

you should sell me your CRX and go wrap something else around a tree with your "fast accelerating high top speed car for cheep" project.

:slap:

AHHVTEC, about $500 for the motor itself...i want it to crack tec hard though...after The initial motor swap i have additional $ to build it up

h22 soumds good to though but my buddy had one and it was garbage, think maybe it was just defective. i dont know much about hondas cuz i just switched from subarus but they gave me to much trouble

There's your first problem. A) spelling helps, and B) building cars is not cheap.

If you have the money, build a B series.. easily 300+ hp with a turbo. Or build the stock D15/D16 in your car and still make 200-300 hp for a couple grand.

Good luck either way.

Yes, because you really need to be cruising along at 160mph in a tin can.

Absolutely.

If you don't have enough to build it, you certainly don't have enough to build it right. A stock crx Si is capable of 130+mph. You want to go faster than that, you're going to need to start looking into safety stuff.. real tires, brakes, cages, etc.. Lots of cash that has nothing to do with making it faster..

Just leave it alone and enjoy it. If you want a monster, save up and build it right.

If $500 is all you have to spend on a motor, then forget anything B-series. And what do you mean by "I'm willing to make compromises"? Don't fucking half-ass an engine swap/build project. Speed ISN'T cheap. If you want to be fast then you're going to need to dump some money into it.

Do it right or don't do it at all...

yeah i got the $ to build but i dont want to go over the top. i want a creeper. the cops around here think that our honda crews are the heroin and opium dealers in town...haha yeah right i cant eve spell the drugs let alone run em. the safety bullshit is alreadydealt with i got my handling taken care of but i need to built a motor thats all thats left other than body work. im thinkin lsvtec will work...sound good for a creeper? people here r into body kits i dont like them just need a motor to be proud of and tranny

I really wasn't trying to insult your intelligence, can you please explain what a creeper is?.

nah i didnt think u were...basically the same thing, not being noticed, peeps think ur car is an ordinary car, cops dont think anything outa the ordinary, its quiet, suttle mods for looks (rims, exhaust, slammed, small wing that flows) but when it comes down to business u be crackin tec past them v8s all day, ya know stuff like that. we just say it differently in my hick-ass town

and im new to owning a honda so my inteligence can be inulted a little, i know a little bit about them, but still learnin thats why i joined this forum, i was a subie person until it steered me wrong, junk!

Haha, well welcome. I am currently rebuilding my a6 block, any experience or suggestions for this?.
