from what i read

Comments: The list is authentic. As a result of what the Associated Press has labeled an "inadvertant transmission," the above roster of over 600 names and phone numbers intended for internal use only went out over the AP sports wire on January 7, 2004 to subscribing newspapers and broadcast news organizations. Despite a follow-up dispatch directing recipients to delete the file and not to publish or distribute it, copies were pasted into emails and forwarded, eventually finding their way into general circulation.

Although it appears to be quite dated — many of the phone numbers have long since been disconnected or reassigned, and more than a few of the prominent figures are deceased — the list has already caused headaches for all the innocent folks, famous and otherwise, on the other end of working phone numbers. "I have personally received complaints from people and tried to explain how it happened and our role in it," AP spokesman Jack Stokes told the Salt Lake Tribune. "Some of these numbers were meant for internal family purposes."

No complaints as yet from Gene Autry or Joe DiMaggio.

I tried call the George W number, said something about about a business..

Too bad there's no Brett Favre on the list...
