i currently have a 97 prelude with a H22a vtec engine in it that i totaled... (OBD1 i believe) the engine and transmission is alright as far as i know the only under the hood parts that were broke in the crash was the power steering and i think the radiator is cracked... however the body is screwed along with back axle.

here is what i want to do...
-get the engine rebuilt since it has 215k miles on it
-then i want to drop the engine and transmission in a Civic Hatchback
- power steering is a must cause i want it to be a snow drift car for winter beating
- however power locks and windows and that stuff isnt needed
-do bolt ons (its already got CAI and cat back which i would adjust to fit the car)
-turbo it with a small turbo (t3/t4 at low psi depending on the rebuild) so i dont have to mess with injectors or pistons or anything (ebay kit)

i do want it to be a hatchback 92-95/96-00 range (i know there is 2 different gens in there but i like both) and i would need a list of everything needed, ie: mounts, electrical, stuff for power steering.

remember this engine at any point if it were to blow up or not work would just be parted or scrapped it is just a fun project for me to do this summer if i dont find a steady job. and if it works very well could become an actual daily driver

97's are obd2.... unless it was swapped.

Most civic hatch backs do not have power steering... and prelude stuff won't work as its all about the rack more than anything. So, you're going to need to find an Si model civic hatch.... which is borderline impossible now-a-days in EG trim, and i don't think any EK's in the states have power steering either.

Any turbo kit you plan to use should require the upgrading of injectors and a tune. oem injectors are basically topped out from the factory. using an FMU is not advisable.

mounts/intake/wiring/etc will differ depdning on what chassis you end up going with, so at this point, no clear answers can be given.

alright so your saying that most of the hatch backs didnt come with power steering except the si... are there any other hatchback style civics that did have power steering that at this point would have over 200k miles on them and be worth about 1000 or cheaper from a junk yard? or am i gonna have to find a si?

You're building a turbo H22 Civic to use as a winter beater? And you're going to rebuild the engine, but boost it with a cheap-ass E-Bay turbo kit and skip upgrading the injectors?

Do you like flushing money down the toliet?

If you need a winter beater, then just drive the car as is, or buy the Civic hatch and drive it as is...

alright the plan is to just give the engine a basic or slightly improving rebuild because it has over 215k miles on it and burns oil like crazy.
i would then drop it into a civic with out turbo and make sure it runs fine and everything is in working form. after i do this i would like to turbo it with a small turbo like a t3/t4 at low psi like 7-9 psi... this wouldnt require manditory injector upgrade as it wouldn't be pushing to much pressure and the stock injectors would hold decently but injectors would be next on the list for buying

durring the winter my buddies and i take currently a beat up la-mans and drift it threw the snow on the curviest road near us this is what this car would be for just something to dick around in durring the winter snows at 2 in the morning.

however if the guy who is rebuilding the engine for me gives me an incredible price on rebuilding the engine to take 20 psi i would like to know a better solution for a turbo because it would then be an actual sleeper project car.

and i have another question is the Si the only civic version that comes with power steering? i would greatly enjoy power steering however it isnt a must and has any one here put a H22a in a civic hatch? whats the process and parts?

You need motor tranny and shift cables from the luder your gonna need hasport or innovative mounts, change the engine to obd1 for the EG or change th EG to obd2 in an ek "should" plug in you need your ecu from tje car your gonna need a welder to fit the exhaust or have a muffler shop do it

If your boosting you need a fuel pump walbro 255 is popular and atleast 440cc injectors and a good tune no tune means BOOM!

alright so let me get this straight...
-EG= change either the engine to obd1 or the car to obd2
-EK= will work with the obd2 engine and the ecu from the lude? to put in the EK
-hasport or innovative engine mounts
-have a welder thats no problem
-if boosting i need a new fuel pump and 440cc injectors...
-how much do tunes normally cost?

Well that's great and it sounds like great fun, but why not just use the Prelude as is for that? I mean, do you just have bags of money to burn or what? The H22 already puts out 200 horses and the car handles decently well. Why take the trouble of pulling the engine, rebuilding it, buying another car to swap it into, AND adding a turbo and everything that goes along with it just for "something to dick around in during the winter snows at 2 in the morning"???

I'd say just use the Prelude as is for that. If it survives the winter, THEN pull the engine and build yourself a nice car. Or just sell the Prelude and buy a cheap Camaro or something for beating on.

But then again, I don't know anything about you. Maybe you literally do have bags of cash laying around to spend haphazardly, so do what ever makes you happy...

Two tips:

1.) If possible, don't convert a car to OBD2. Convert the engine to OBD1. OBD1 is simpler and has more and better tuning options.

2.) The cost of the tune is very subjective. Just call up some shops and ask what they would charge for some dyno time and tuning on a turbo Honda.

I wanted to actually be helpful and not just come off like a total dick... :D

alright sounds good! how simple is it to convert the engine to OBD1? ive never done it and not to fond with engine electrical...
and ill try and find a shop or 2 around me that has a dyno...

Emissions is also a factor to consider. If emissions are required in your area, generally, they scan obd2 cars.

ohio i dont believe has emission testings... cause if they did my camaro would be screwed... no cat just pipe from headers to tips... not to worried about emissions...

what are some links to parts i will need? i am currently looking at a 92 hatchback idk if it has a label like dx or what ever were made for that year but it had a d15b8 engine in it... what i was wondering is what OBD that car would be and where i would have to get drive shafts from? like what length will work...

its a 92 Dx i found out...

alright what are the parts i would need? if i got a 92-95 civic dx i would need an:
-obd converter (2 to 1)
-drive shafts
-engine mounts

where would i get these?? is there any kits? i have found engine mounts and obd converter but the drive shafts i am lost on... is there any thing else i would need?

Awesome just when I think I'm getting info on my DX for an H22 swap.... NOBODY replies o_O

google is your friend.. this has been done a ton of times and lots of documentation on the internet to tell you exactly what you need.. we're not gonna spoon feed you all the info.. research, if you have questions in the middle of the swap, thats when you ask for help
