its newly discovered. probably been around a very long time.
and its not just thriving in arsenic, its creating itself with it. thats different.

its very interesting. and it will change a lot scientifically.
huge leap.

its not new... its just bacteria that has been thriving in high levels of arsenic.

actually, this is VERY new. the previous discoveries uncovered the ability to live in and metabolize arsenic. however, the news b posted states they used it to constrict their DNA/RNA, proteins and cell wall.

every organism we have found, up until now, shared the same basic DNA elements such as phosphorus, sulfur, ATGC(U) proteins and amino acids. but with this new beast, it utilizes arsenic; something unheard of.

anyway, without reading the scientific journal, i cant speculate further. but this huge because it extends the variation of life making life forms like T1000 totally possible.

In the study, researchers examined a bacteria living in a very salty and arsenic-heavy lake in northeastern California, not far from Yosemite National Park. It is not a space alien, nor is it “new life” — it’s an existing bacteria that lives in a difficult environment and was deliberately manipulated in a lab.

It seems a little sensationalist for all these outfits to be banding new/alien life around in the title of stories. It is no less amazing however.

it seems that they always sensationalize NASA releases

the article i had read specifically mentioned the mars moon as being a place with arsenic and perhaps a candidate for this organism?
it was early in the morning wednesday so i may have read it wrong

I'd say not more of a candidate but means more of a possibility of similar organisms on Mars.
