My son wants to install a 1998 civic engine in a 1994 civic. He has the 1998 engine which he rebuilt and a 1998 (P2P) ECU and determined he needs to leave the old harness in place. what type of conversion does he need. OBD2 to OBD1, etc? Went to ryewire but not sure which way the FROM:TO designation works. Can anyone help?

you need jumper that says OBD1 to OBD2A - converting OBD1 car to run OBD2A ECU

Rywire : OBD1 to OBD2a ECU Conversion Harness - $120.00

you need to add option for CKF and Secondary O2 sensor, both of which the ECU will be looking for (additional $20.00) - CKF is the crankshaft speed fluctuation sensor which is right behind the crank pulley

i assume that the 98 engine is the D16Y8 since you have P2P ECU, correct? if it were mine, i would keep it OBD1 by using an OBD1 P28 ECU and a distributor jumper, like this:

Rywire : OBD1 to OBD2 10-pin Distributor Adapter - $35.00

with the P28 ECU you won't use the CKF sensor or the secondary O2

if the 94 Civic was not originally equipped with a VTEC engine, you will also need a VTEC subharness
