"I don't like African-American. It denotes something else to me than who I am," said Smith, whose parents are from Mississippi and North Carolina. "I can't recall any of them telling me anything about Africa. They told me a whole lot about where they grew up in Macomb County and Shelby, N.C."

Some Blacks Insist: 'I'm Not African-American' | Fox News

Just had to share this. Im not sure what to make of it.

a) Yellow
b) Mongoloid
c) Chinese
d) American
e) Chinese-American
f) Person of Asian descent, but not from the Pacific Islands.
g) All of the above.

American of -blank- decent. African American denotes that the individual person came from Africa. My grandmother is Scottish American. I'm an American of Scottish (and other) decent. My sister's soon to be father in law is more African American than most Blacks in the US and he's 100% Portuguese by way of Angola.

I'm one of the whitest white boys around so I have not encountered any problems involving skin color so I may be speaking out of turn. But I have always felt that it would be offensive for someone to walk up to someone and say, "Hey we know your (insert protected class) and all so life is going to be terribly, terribly hard for you so we are going to take care of things for you." I am no expert on race relations and such but how can we ever get past race when it is constantly thrown in our faces.

I am of Mexican descent! What does that make me?
That is all!

Good call. Didnt really think that one through to much.

I guess I am American by nationality! I was born in D.C so I am an American citizen.but my parents are Mexican so I consider myself Mexican American! I guess
