So Intel and AMD are currently pushing processors with 2 processing cores. So that you have 2 processors on a single chip (sort of). Intel announced last month that sometime Q1 2007 they will release a Quad core chip (4 processors on a single chip). For the most part the average home user won't see a significant speed increase with a Dual Core processor over a single core using the same architecture. Even fewer people will actaully use a Quad Core. Nothing outside of hardcore graphics rendering, fluid modeling, or other processor intensive programs will need 80 cores.
