hey guys so im a bit confused and new to the whole honda thing, i just gotta 94 dx with a 96 vtech motor, the block is a b18b1, which it says that on the block, the head is supposedly a b16 vtech? i dont know but thats not my question, but i am wondering if thats possible? but my problem is that when i first got the car the rev limiter would come on at 9grand, now its coming on at about 6500? and when i take off the positive side of the battery to try and resest the chip, which im thinking is the problem. when i turn it back on, its back up to 9000 but after idling a few seconds and getting back on it, its right back down to 6500? im confused and hope someone can help me..sorry this is long but i have lots of questions about this motor bc im not so sure he was being completely honest. thanks, you can even im me, studsk8er925 thanks

Well first off, it's "VTEC," not "v-tech." V-Tech makes telephones and electronic children's toys.

Secondly, yes, it's very possible to have the B18B1 block and a B16 head, that's what they refer to as "LS-VTEC."

As for your problem, do you have a check engine light on? It sounds like the car might be in limp mode.

First things first check your ECU and see if you have any codes stored. If you don't know how to do that check the reference section of this site. There are a number of factors that contribute to VTEC engaging properly and any one of them can cause what you're describing. Post back here with your ECU codes, if any, and also look above your headers and either take a picture or write back with the stamps on your head so we can determine which head you have on the B18B block. The more information you can provide the easier it will be to help you..

ok thanks a bunch guys, i will go down to my buddies shop and get the codes read and see what it says, but thanks abunch and where on the head will it say? the back? bc i was looking all over and couldnt find the number but yes thanks a bunch and i will get them codes read hopefully tomorrow thanks again

As in directly above the flange on the front of the head..
