91 Civic Project
So now I bought a H23a usdm from a prelude. I want to keep it NA, no turbo, but I want to get around 300- 350 whp. Possible? I also been looking hard how to do this and I came acrosse a H23A Vtec, how much better is this? Could i do it out of the H23A i have now? Any more info will help, I have been searching like crazy to make plans and start purchasing parts.

Well, the short answer is you need to find a head and ecu from an H22 and install it onto your H23 block. It's not quite that easy, obviously, but that's the gist of it.

On a side note though, you're gonna be really hard-pressed to make 350 wheel horsepower without a turbo. You're going to need to completely build the motor, and it will most likely have crazy high compression and not be very streetable.

Why are you opposed to going turbo? It's easier and cheaper to build a fairly reliable 300 horse turbo Honda engine than a reliable 300 horse naturally aspirated Honda engine.

You will need HIGH compression and nitrous.

Why not go turbo if you want that kind of power. Its almost like free power, you don't need to keep filling the boost bottle.

I doubt you'll get anywhere near 300 whp without running boost. Run a turbo and save yourself a ton of money in the process.

the only thing is, I dont know if I will have any room for a turbo for this is going into my 91 civic Hatch, room will be tight.

will that cool such a big engine fast enough though? or will i have over heating.

If you start overheating then find yourself a nice aftermarket aluminum half radiator. My stock half radiator has no problem cooling my ls/vtec in hot weather.

ok that sounds good, but enough room for the intercooler and all the piping that is need for a turbo? how big of a turbo could i put, 10 psi?

Well i do not mean to be annoying, I have been searching for days now. I have not seen anyone put an H23 into a 91 civic. I am starting to build my engine and I just want to know if I should go turbo or NA

i have made an h23vtec and its a long process

its a little harder than ls vtec because you also need certain miscellaneous parts from the h22 block to swap over to the h23 block suck as removal of oil control orfice.adding the oil squirters (requieres small customizing) and the timing tensioners and balancer. My h23 is in a 92 civic and fit very snuggly(4 door).I would recommend going h23 turbo for the sake of time and money.

ok, you find a forum that shows an H23 or H22 into 91 civic that is turboed

Uh no, why don't YOU go find it. We're not here to do your research for you. And I'm also calling bullshit on you, because I've seen plenty of build threads with H22s into CRXs and 88-91 Civics. Go to Hasport.com and look around. They've got a mount kit for the swap and detailed installation instructions right on their website.

I think you suck at searching.
