I was expecting "3:10 to Yuma" to be a "good" movie. Just good. The ads say it is the best western since "Unforgiven". So I sat with the girlfriend eating dinner, and trust me, this movie does not disappoint.
This is what movies are supposed to be. Reasons to go to the theater. Movies that attack you emotionally. And movies that remind you why you dedicate 2 hours of your time to sitting on your ass.
Russell Crowe leads a phenomenal cast in this movie set in the late 1870's or so (sometime shortly after the civil war). Crowe plays a murdering, robbing, sociopath. He is a smooth talker, with great leadership qualities he shows running a gang of outlaws.
Christian Bale is the co-star playing a desperate rancher trying to find a way out for his family. He was injured in the war and is trying to find a way to make his boys proud of who he is. Bale puts on a riveting performance that would steal the show if Crowe wasn't such a strong actor.

Crowe comes into Bale's small southern town causing chaos after pulling one last job. They have a couple small run ins before Crowe's character is trapped and arrested. He needs an escort to the 3:10 train to Yuma prison for his hanging. Bale volunteers for a $200 payday.
The story follows them through the west on a week long journey trying to run away from Crowe's Loyal gang trying to break him free. A strong bond builds between the reluctant Bale and Crowe. After several breakout attempts, Bale is the only one still alive to take Crowe to the train. After 2 hours of rioting events, the movie ends with a shocking twist of redemption and honor.
The supporting cast is great. They all add a great piece to the movie. I few cool cameos from people like Luke wilson make it fun.
