To answer the question... I would face the subs towards the back if possible. And Perfect subs are designed for sealed enclosures. If you put them in a slotted box it might ruin the suspension. If you wanted to do the two box setup here is a link of a system like that...
I have a Viper 500, and they also offer an optional doppler motion sensor. I used to have it set so sensitive that anyone tapping the car would set it off, or anyone driving by for that matter (even quiet cars).
Buy a reliable Honda for $2500, and use it for a bad weather vehicle. Spend the other $6000 on a nice motorcycle (Kawasaki ZX9, Yamaha R6, Honda CBR900, Suzuki GSXR 750 - in that price range) and you'll beat all of the cars mentioned. :P
The highest end Hollywood subs are pretty loud.. but not at all designed for sound quality. I'm also guessing their reliability factor is a bit lower than that of JL Audio too. I've never dealt with their amplifiers, so I can't comment on that one. Overpowering subs is only a good idea if 1)...
Right now I've got two Rockford Fosgate Punch HX2 12's behind the seats of my Del Sol, with a Cadence Z7000 amplifier (1500 watts rms :o ). I'm waiting to see how well it does on the meter...
