Bank 1 is always the closest to cylinder 1. just remember that and you will always know which sensor the scanner is meaning (if you are using a scanner)
I am not sure if you can disconnect the battery to clear the code on OBD2 cars. you may have to clear it with the scanner, at least thats what I have done. I know on older hondas and acuras that there is a fuse to pull for the ecu memory, so that you don't have to enter codes in the radio or reset clocks. I'm not sure if there is a simular fuse for OBD2 cars.
if in doubt just pull the neg of the batt for at least 10 seconds then drive for about 10 miles and see if check engine comes back on.
