So as the title states I have a 1996 Civic coupe with a 1997 HX D16Y8 swap in it. It currently has a P2N ECU in it and the Primary O2 sensor does not read at all. I used a Determinator Scanner and using Data Stream I can see that the O2 voltage is always on 1.06 and doesnt move from there. I have double checked that the pins on the ECU are in the right spot, have checked to see that the wire isnt cut, and have check that the grounds and stuff are all good. Can't seem to find the problem and the gas mileage is HORRIBLE. I have been reading that HX engines are suppose to have a 5 wire O2 harness but mine only has 4 wires 2 heater wires, 1 ground for the O2 and 1 O2 signal wire. Can anybody help me out on this. Thanks in advance.

well first go look and see what motor you have because the hx is not a d16y8, if its a hx it will be a d16y5, and it uses a different ecu and o2 than the y8

Ok I knew that it uses a P2P ECU so I already had tried to put a P2P ecu since i thought it was the wrong ECU but it turns out the person I bought it from used a different ECU wiring harness that makes it so the P2P ECU is not compatible with my harness. Only ECU's so far that I know should fit is the P2N which I have, and the P2M which Im undecided yet if I should buy one and try to see if that fixes the problem.

Yes, like I said its a 1997 D16Y8 but it has a different harness thats not compatible with the stock P2P ECU thats its suppose to have.

ok the y8 is a ex motor not hx. you need a ex ecu and a ex o2 sensor that will have 4 wires. you can either re wire it or just buy a ex harness for your year car.

So the correct ECU for a 1997 Honda Civic EX would be the P2P ECU. But because of the different wiring harness connector... How hard would it be to rewire the engine with the correct P2P ECU wiring harness? Also another question do all P2P ECU's use the connectors A, B, C on the ECU cause the P2N Wiring harness uses the A, B, D connectors on the ECU. Thanks

I ask the connector thing because I was going to buy a P2P ECU from Craigslist for $40 but when I went to go see it the connectors it uses are A,B,C not A,B,D like I need it to. So are all P2P ECU's like that or are there some with the connectors A.B,D?

you need a obd2a ecu, they come 2 ways, one is a obd2a the one you need the other is a obd2b. the obd2b are for the 99-00 civic. it it were me id just buy a 40 dollar harness and correct ecu and be done with it. that way you know its right

But my car is a 1996 Civic with a 1997 D16Y8. I will try to post some pictures of the ECU and Harness and engine so you can see what I mean.

yes thats the correct ecu if you have a 5spd
