Hi, I got a 96 Honda Integra, DC2 with a B18c head and a B16a bottom. Want to get this car in top shape and probably do a swap out from automatic to manual and maybe a engine swap, you guys got any suggestions of what I should do to get this project on the road? Any suggestions or help will be appreciated, i don't know where to start looking for a transmission or even a engine.

    Welcome.

There are plenty of threads to help with all parts of the conversion and swap.

Before anyone gets into options.....we should start with your budget.

Ok you got a point. Well I saw some Type R engines but they were for like $4,000 bucks. Really wasn't budgeting to spend that much on the engine alone, but if you guys say i have to then I'll set aside for it. Lets say it like this, I wont want the car to fly if I add wings to it but it want a really decent Integra when I'm done, My budget is open for whatever that's gonna cost me.

Is $5,000 to little of a budget or can that get the job done. I'm strictly talking about the swap out here.

for $5k you could get an ITR swap done.. or you could boost the motor you have now and make twice the power

If you are talking about a reliable every day driver with some pep, then you should probably stay NA. Something like a type R or even just a GSR swap would be nice. You could also build upon what you already have, but the b16a bottom is not ideal for all motor. A nice LSvtec or b20vtec build will end up costing about what a nice complete ITR swap does and potentially have less reliability in the long run (but more power). If you are looking for a drop in swap, transmission and all, i would certainly be looking heavily at the type R or GSR swap.

dont get me wrong turbo is fun, and makes lots of power. but if you want to go that route, it will end up costing more in the long run. everyone that starts out with a low budget turbo build ends up either sinking more money into it than they wanted to, or blowing it up.

How'd this car end up with a B18C head, a B16 block, and an auto tranny???

I would love to work with what I got and boost the motor I have, What steps would you recommend for this, I have a certified mechanic to do all of the work for me just he doesn't have the time to do all this research you guys are helping me with.

I would love to build on what I already have probably switch back to a b18c bottom and take it from there? The car is my only and will be my only ride so yes it is a every day back and forth car. Maybe I shouldn't go all out with this for I may end up spending more in the long run with the everyday back and forth? The car is pretty fast right now but I just want to step it up a bit i guess.

Well when I first bought the car I went out drinking with a few of my other "HONDA" buddies, driving my car manually with the option of going from gear 1-4 I went racing that night and didn't pay attention to my oil light and damaged my bottom end crank shaft, bearings etc. so my mechanic had a b16 bottom and I checked on a forum that it would work, showed it to him and he did a bit digging and got it installed for me. Car runs awesome and like i said in the other post is pretty fast but I just want to take it up a noch before I begin to do body work (spraying rims etc.)

The engine being a mis-match is fairly common, but I'm wondering more about the transmission. Was it originally an automatic LS or RS? If so, the transmission is definitely a weak link. The auto LS tranny has long gears for fuel economy. Switching to a manual B16 or GS-R transmission would make the car feel a lot more sporty...

Great, it actually is weak, I can be driving, make a stop at a corner and the car drags it heels just to get out of that corner, I be shaking my heals that someone will hit me, but once its driving already its pretty quick, I think your right about the tranny being a weak link as I can feel it in my day to day driving. Do you know where I can order a B16 or GSR transmission from??

Hmotors can get you most anything. They list a bunch of swap packages on their site, but if you call or e-mail and tell them what you need, they can get it for you...
