98 civic dx computer location

friend of mine has a check engine light on and i wanted to help him. On the 88-91 crx/civic they are under the carpet where you put your feet on the passenger side and have a led on them you can read error codes. on the 98 civic under the carpet is rubber padding thats fastened down with snap in plugs and stapples so doesnt look like its there and doesnt look like its under the seats either. If anyone knows where they are located on this model it would be much appreciated.

you dont read the codes off the ecu on 92 and up hondas, under the glove box there should be a little plug that has a green and brown wire coming out of it, you have to bridge these two wires and you read the codes off of the cel on the dash

The ecu is under the passenger side kickpanel. Take the kickpanel off and there you go. There should be an empty connector down there too, it has a brown wire and a black wire, run a wire between the two wires; a jumper wire and turn the key to the acc position, the check engine light will flash like morse code and that will give you the check engine code number.
