well...the ol' TGL may have breathed its last breath...surprisingly enough it's made it 8 years and 112k miles before it's first official breakdown...i'm drivin down highway 469, cruising at about 75, when my engine revs to near redline and starts losing speed...i was like "what the hell" so i rolled as far as i possibly could...now my car has been known to have battery problems no matter how new the friggin thing is...so i just thought maybe i needed a jump, but i turned the starter and the engine turned, and it took some work but the car started...at that point i noticed the smell...burning antifreeze...i rolled down the nearest exit as far as i could go so as to get away from the danger of stupid drivers on a highway...anyways, i think my hose is fried and it may have affected the engine, which overheated...if the repairs are any more than 500 bucks, we're laying the car to rest...prolly buy a used honda to last me till i buy my nice car here in six months or so...but who knows the ol' TGL has made it thru a lot of shit...thanks to my dad and Rev8k for comin out to help me out...anyways, here's some pics

another pic of the antifreeze...the pics were taken to late to see the steam friggin POURING out of my hood...if you look hard you can see the cooler i keep my lunch in when i go to work...oh and check the missing headlight on the driver side and all the lovely scratches and paint exchanges.

me watching it dropped off by the tow truck at our local mechanic...a sad moment indeed! :( :( :(

Poor Mark. Now he's just gonna have to walk or hitch a ride.

Swap in a B20 and a little boost..and you'll be smiling again.... :)

it's official...the TGL is dead...totalled...gone...buried...headed for salvage :( now i need to find a cheap used car to last till i get my new car after i've saved some cash...any suggestions...besides James's old escort, tpp heh

I remember driving home from my friends house, I was on 350 in Raytown and the car has been knocking like made for awhile well coming to a stop light and im stoping I look down at my gauges for some reason the tach is uhmm at 0... so i think maybe it stalled... nope threw a rod through the block... didnt know it till I parked it. it sat for about a year bought a parts car resurected my baby. then it died again. at least mine isnt like civicous' posssed adn shit... rolling, burnin etc...

cuz the temp gauge is broken...but it never went that high before once i glanced at it...

Do tell, since it's your only experience with ford and all.

Remember this TGL is 8 yrs old with 112k miles on it...and this is the ONLY time it's ever had a major breakdown...you don't even want us to describe the hell Greg, Matt and Markis here put this poor car through. I'm surprised it's lasted this long honestly...but with a host of problems, it's ready for it's final resting place.

its not my only experience.

its not quite dead yet, though. and ill give lamareaux ford props since they have honored the warranty 6 times since she bought it in august. 2002 focus se with less than 25k.

my ex had 2 ford escorts of the same gen as TPPs. the first one was a blue 4dr, the motor shit the bed. the 2nd was a white 2dr hatch, the tranny shit the bed. shoulda put the two together. both had under 100k and while i was her boyfriend, made sure they were maintained.

my buddy jody had a taurus of the previous generation from TGL's... it ran pretty well, until one day the car just didnt want to run. his father had an early 90's F150 and swore by them until he blew out 2 rear ends doing light duty work which should have been easy for the truck. it never towed in its life, either. put to rest at somewhere above 100k miles. he now owns an early 90s silverado and the truck hasnt given him shit since he bought it.

and finally, a die hard ford fan buddy at work's wife bought a new 03 ford escape. the automatic tranny has been giving her problems. its got less than 10k on the odometer. im not even going to mention the problems he is having with his 96 ranger v6.

i could probably ask around and find some more stories, and im assuming the problems aren't limited to one production car. :shrug2:

So they bought lemons. Oh well, dealers should honor warranties, thats what they're for.

Two of your stories are happening with cars over 100k miles right? Thats not bad, "but my honda motor has run for 150!!" whoopty! 100k miles on any car with no problems is a good deal.
