Can you still sand down "non sanding" primer with light grit sandpaper to get rid of any imperfections?

yes but its gonna ball up on the paper and sand like shit

Like come off the metal you mean, or just stick to the paper? Will a little soap help if its sticking to the paper bad?

eh...maybe....or otherwise just wetsanding may help the cause to

Try getting some 1000 grit or something and lightly sanding with that and then spray another coat. Are you just trying to take out dirt in the primer or are you trying to feather out pinholes?

Eh, I can never spray it perfect and there is usually a little bit of imperfections there that show through. I have to sand it down a little bit, but not much, to get it to come out ok.
