Any telescope people here?

So im trying to get a telescope for my dad for christmas. Only problem is, i have no idea what the numbers for the magnification mean. ive seen things like 675x60mm, 150x50mm, 40x90. .... . . . what the hell does all this mean? ive seen all sorts of prices and what not, im so confused.

What Im looking for: I wanna spend somewhere in the 100-200 dollar range, and want it to be able to check out the moon and stars and whatnot with good clarity and zoom. Can anyone help me?
