Autotrans needs to be in 1st

I have an 88 hatch that I am racing at an oval dirt track. The problem is I need to be in 1st gear all the time and the shifter will only let me shift down to second, also when I put it in drive as soon as I get over 28mph it wont let it shift down even if its floored. I am getting killed out there, is there a way to manually force it into first?

Put it in drive and hold it to the floor. Not much you can do abou it other than that.

change your tire/rim size..sounds wierd but thats what we had to do on our crx..

yeah, I want to go to a smaller tire, I am not sure if that will be enough though
