So today I installed a used b7 to replace my gsr while it gets built. The engine cranks no problem, and is getting fuel and spark, but just won't fire up. I checked the timing and when I move the cam gear to TDC, the crank pulley is off TDC by a half rotation. Now tomorrow I'm gonna reset it correctly and hopefully all goes well.
My question is this: do you think that the valves will be bent due to the fact that the the car was cranked with the timing off so much? Is the b7 an interference engine? The engine cranks no problem by hand, and cranks smoothly with the starter. I don't hear any noises such as valves hitting pistons.
