D15B7 Oil Burner

I am the proud owner of a 92 hatch civic (jap import) and have been driving it for about a week. I checked the dipstick after about 1000 miles and it was dry.The engine has about 165k miles on it, is this normal for this engine?

The oil i used was 10w40, is this the correct oil ?

Or what oil should i use?

I would really like to cure or at least not have it burn so much....

10w-30 with some sort of oil additive by STP or another reputable company will decrease the amount of oil you burn. Check gaskets and seals for leaks and repalce them if needed. http://www.hondaautomotiveparts.com seems to have the best prices.
