I just sold the original PM6 ECU from my 1991 hatchback. It's an OBD0 non-VTEC ECU. You need something else. Probably something like a P28 - I'm not in the mood to research it for you right now as it's late - but, OBD1 with VTEC like a P28 - just use the search engine for D16Z6 ECU and it should find what you need. I just sold a P28 ECU too, that I used for a test unit when I did my swap.

Good luck with it - you'll also have to do a bit of wiring and get an adapter harness for the OBD1 ECU. None of which is a big deal. Get the schematics for your car and schematics for whatever model the Z6 came out of. They can be found online for free - just download them.

Fuck - now you've got me looking at 1:45am.

The D16Z6 is a 1992-1995 engine which means it's OBD1 with native distributor. You'll need to change connectors at the distributor also. There are adapters for that too, but I would change the plugs on the car harness myself to make it clean.

    D16Z6 1590cc 125@6600 hp 106@5200 ft lbs 9.2:1 CR 75mm bore 90mm stroke SOHC VTEC OBD1 1992-1995 Civic EX/Si/Del Sol Si

You're on the right path, now you have a thread. Some of the other guys will assist and I'll look at this tomorrow - the wiring schmatics I have may work for your car - I'll check them out.

Have a look here at the wiring stuff for an idea of what you need to do - oh yeah, it will need a 4 wire O2 sensor too.

If it has the stock OBD1 distributor in the D16Z6, it won't even run with the PM6 OBD0 ECU (even if you change the connectors and wire it up) as the angular sensors in the OBD1 distributor operate on ~40 pulses per revolution and the PM6 OBD0 ECU is setup for ~25 pulses per revolution.

Thank you so much for responding!! So basically I still have to get the proper vtec ecu. And no way to do it with the pm6 ecu damn lol.

That is correct. With a distributor that is compatible with both the engine and PM6 ECU is would run, without VTEC. I don't know that there is such a distributor without modification to the mounting. Not something you would want to entertain doing as it wouldn't run worth a shit.

Getting it wired up and working isn't that big a deal. What's important is that you get the correct schematics before attempting the work. Look at the link I posted for some basic wiring technique how-to's and what you will need in terms of parts for harness modification. Take your time and do the wiring right or you'll have problems upon problems.

There's some talent and experience on this site - they'll be along shortly - be patient. For the mean time, you have enough now to get started accumulating the correct parts and related supplies.

It will be worth the effort, assuming the engine is in decent condition. More power under the hood is a good thing. :)

Ok it runs, so it's an OBD0 distributor in it. In addition to the VTEC not working, the fuel/ignition timing tables will be off for that engine.

Since it's driveable, and no worries about damaging the engine per se. You have time to do the research, obtain the correct parts and git r done.

Changing to the correct ECU and wiring up the VTEC will be a huge wake up call for that engine.

I'll be happy to PM you my contact info and chat with you in time. You've got some homework to do first. :) Get the ECU & distributor, schematics + wiring components. By then, some of the other members will have responded to the thread. We can talk when you are ready to tear into it.

Post us up some pictures too.

No offense to be taken here, I want to see you are legit before I spend too much time with this.
