d17a2 with tranny into 01 lx auto - what do I need?

Newbie here... need guidance. Have a 2001 civic lx automatic with d17a1 base engine and trashed tranny. Also own a d17a2 sohc vtec with automatic out of a 2002 civic ex with 4150 miles. Not doing this for performance upgrade, just need to get the car back on the road. I don't have the ex ECU, just whatever is in the stock lx. I do have an apexi vfac2 unit. What else do I nee to make this plug and play? Do I need the ex ECU or will the apexi unit do whatever is needed to make the lx ECU work?

You will need the ex ecu. I'm not sure about your car, but on older honda's that don't have vtec, you have to run the wiring if you decide to swap in a vtec motor. I'm not sure of this for your newer car, just watch out for it.
