I have a 00 em1 that was apparently stolen at one time and had the engine replaced. The original b16a2 was replaced with an ex d16y8 block topped with an hx d16y5 head, intake and exhaust and has the ex 5 speed.
I bought it in January of this year and it was about 5 degrees at the time. I took the car for a test without warming it up alot and noticed that from about 2500 to 4500 rpms it ran rather shitty. It seems to really like the pedal mashed to the floor to run good. I asked the owner if it gets better when it gets warm and she said yeah, alittle, but its always been that way.
We are planning on finding an original b16 motor to put back in it, but for now I just want it to run better. Its getting about 36 mpg and I'm not going to complain about that.
I've been doing alot of reading about swaps and just realized last week that my car has a p2p ecu in it. From what I've been reading, it appears that I should have a p2n ecu in it. That should solve the hesitation above 2500 rpms, since the d16y5's vtec-e engages about 2800 and then runs on all 16 valves.
Question. how do I know if a p2n ecu is for a manual or automatic if I find a used one from a private party? I found one, but the guy says it came out of a stock d16y8 with a 5 speed and I know a p2n is for an hx.
