i recently got myself a used civic (85 950km's on the odo) V.I.N number indicates it was put together in the land of the rising sun (jhmek3.....followed by a whole lot of numbers.....) IT HAS THE D15Z7 3 STAGE VTEC ENGINE (it has two vtec solenoids), so far so good...the acceleration on this thing is ferocious,which tells me the vtec is working fine :D (at least the third stage)..however since i bought the car ive never seen the econo light come on whilst driving,it only lights up breifly wen i turn the key to the "on" position,,even more more perculiar is that my ABS,OIL,& ENGINE CHECK, NEVER EVER LIGHT UP, :( even with the key on the 'on' position,,,the other day i tried to to test my ABS brakes by applying full braking pressure from 50kph ,the outer front wheel locked before the others,is it supposed to do that help!!!!!!!!!!!!! :(

also what are the recommended spark plugs for the D15Z7?????, :huh: i recently filled it up with castrol formula rs racing synthetic.
 
d15z7 in a 1985? never happened.
abs in 1985? wtf? didn't exist.

you have yourself a swapped car, and why the lights don't work, is probably a result of the swap. no one here can guess at something like that over the net.

Sounds like they swapped gauge clusters on you too, there IS NO abs.. And I can't see anyone doing an ABS swap on an 85... Yeah yeah, some bastard somewhere did it, and I'll get called on that statement..

Anyway, are you sure its not a 95 or something? typo maybe?

THANKS FOR THE SPECS "VTECIN5TH" I ACTUALLY LIVE IN SOUTH AFRICA,here the only vtec we had (locally assembled) was an ek3 vtec,fitted with the 1.6l dohc vetec engine, the other ek3's were just bog standard 1.5's,


GUYS I ACTUALLY MEANT 85950 KILOMETERS ON THE THE ODO,NOT "1985" AS IN THE YEAR 1985 WHEN KENNEDY GOT SHOT(I THINK???)
 
yeah i kinda thought that too at first, but after rereading his first post, it was obviously 85,950 miles, not an 85 civic with 950 miles. Or kilometers. :)

Kennedy, eh? He died on November 22nd 1963. As far as your car, take it to a dealer.
