Anyone heard of a factory freak engine? Was at the meet last night where everyone was racing, and a newer civic was smoking people left and right, and friend of mine tells me that the civic was 90% stock. I said "no way that thing is stock". He tells me it is, and that people have looked all over his car for a bottle, and have taken extremely close looks at his engine and everything. So, are factory freaks an actual reality? If so, how does it happen? What exactly makes it better than any other stock engine? I don't know if this is in the right area, if not, please move, wasn't sure where else to put it. Hell...anyone think they have a factory freak?

as in a super powerful car from the factory? No. They will vary in HP by a few, but not enough for someone to roll up and tear everything up.

You can't tell if a head has had major port work and big cams, raised compression, limited slip, etc.. It could be very built and look bone stock.

Or, his could be in proper tune and he is a good driver and everyone else is running cars that haven't been tuned up in years.

And a NA civic showed up and tore everyone a new one? What is everyone else driving?

I knew a guy with a 95 Escort GT that had time slips to prove his bone stock GT ran a 14.1.

Then he gutted it and ran a 13.7. Then he turbo'd it and lost all traction. lol

haha........ thats what i am afraid of........no trac
tion

my boy had a d15 in his EG hatch..he did intake and exhaust and that car was walking on some boltoned cars...really depends on the driver as well

Well if you look back in the day...my dad got a 69 Camaro that was a 396 but in actuality it was a 402. Only 5000 of them were made. Right now it is a $100,000 car.

Same with the 69 Nova SS 396. Only 5000 of them were made with 402 but were badged a 396 like the Camaro. We just had one in the shop that was sitting in a barn in Michigan for the last 30 years. A lil rot on the quarters but still worth $100 grand all original.

I don't know, I guess it's possible that he could be just saying he's 90% stock, and really having full internal work, with i/h/e. He wasn't racing against slow cars, I can tell you that. Also possible that he just is a good driver, and could have a nice tune on it...possible that he could have a chipped ecu.

Man...should have seen the 09 corvette ZR1 race the turbo'd hatch. Corvette won, but not by much, that hatch was FAST. Sounded awesome too. Not sure what he was runnin though...cops came and had to take off with a quickness...

There are sometimes considerable variations in engine output if the engine is not assembly-line produced. Examples being the new GTR, and the Caddy V-series engines. Even on those larger displacement high-power examples, the variations are usually within 15 HP of the given number. You're not going to get a factory Civic EX or whatever with 150whp and no mods.
