What car keeps running when you disconnect the battery?

Ummm.. All of 'em. Unless the alternator is crap.

But the real fun part is that the new tumbler has to be ordered from BMW using the VIN and will take at least a week. Now I'll either have to rekey my doors and trunk or deal with two keys for the same car.

Nope, It will come keyed just like it is. Thats why they use your vin. The old keys will work fine. (Unless the parts person you ordered it from was a lazy ass)

Could be worse though. At least it happened at home and it didn't almost catch on fire like my Si's ignition switch did.

The only way to avoid constant maintenance on a BMW is to coat it with 100 dollar bills.

My cousin had some of those problems(fan falling apart and cutting the alternator belt). He didn't have it long enough to fix everything, but he tried(everything he got fixed was done by a BMW specialist, I'm not sure how much he paid though).

I agree, it is a pretty fun car. I took it sideways a few times and took it through some country roads. Good luck with the car.
