fuel pump question

hey i have a 89 civic and my fuel pump does not work. i tried replacing the main relay but that didnt help either. does anyone know how to hook up the fuel pump directly to a power source to know for sure that the fuel pump is dead.
 
to actually replace the fuel pump in the 4th gen i think you have to actually drop the tank, unlike the 5th and 6th gen's. I dunno though, i could be wrong?
