Change the ball in the trophy's hand to a laptop

Change the stiffarm to an outstretched hand gripping a fistfull of dollars...

he got booted from Florida for some laptop thefts, went to a j.c. before transferring to Auburn for this year, and now it appears that his father/entourage "allegedly" sold or at least attempted to sell his services to the highest bidder.

Pretty much the way college athletics works these days at the high levels.

i don't advocate paid college athletes, however....if they sell a shit ton of jerseys, they should get some profit sharing or something out of it. nfl athletes do. it's their work that makes the sales.

I agree there should be some sort of stipend or something. The problem would be that you'd have to pay every athlete the same amount to make it fair, and the "stars" would say they should get more than the guy at the end of the bench. I guess at least it would be on the table instead of under the table.

Amateur athletics really doesn't exist at the Division 1 level anymore. Between Nike, Reebok, Adidas and all the rich boosters it's as much of a big business as the professional leagues are now.

i think players should be entitled to a per jersey fee for the use of their name
it seems only fair that they can license their names, no?

the way i see it if all players get dividends on their named jerseys... then player A who sells more jerseys automatically gets more than player B that doesnt.

I doubt he will win. His numbers are great, but Luck is awesome.

Newton was forced out for a variety of reasons at florida. One was his grades. He didn't go to class, and struggled when he did. Auburn is known for having the most unscrupulous student-athlete programs in the country. He had to go to JC for a variety of reasons, and one was probably to get his grades up so he was academically eligible to play in the NCAA div 1.

His dad shopped him around for good reason. Since the 80's players have been getting payed by booster. Now its just known a lot more. Go drive down to any big successful university and look at the athlete parking lot and tell me, Do you think they could afford those cars with their book stipend checks? Fuck no.

Oregon's running back just had this problem. He was driving a "family-Friend" 's range rover. Of course he bought it for james. James is going pro. That will come back to him ten-fold.

I have a family friend that has a nephew in a good college sports program. He is going to go pro. The uncle takes care of the nephew. He has fresh rims and the works on his ride. Did the uncle pay for it? Yes. Could he have gotten the money from boosters, and paid for it without anyone knowing? Probably. I doubt he did(he's an honest man) but the likelihood that a lot of the players get money this way, isn't unusual, and hasn't been. It has just come to recent light because reggie bush' family lived in a HUGE FUCKING HOUSE of an agent.

college jerseys aren't sold with player's names on them, only the number and the college logo. it's the loophole through which the colleges/ncaa receive ALL the profits.

Yeah this is obviously something that has been going on for decades. Oklahoma back in the 80's under Barry Switzer was notorious. It just comes to the forefront now because of the availability of information.

Newton is a lock for the Heisman unless he loses votes because of the scandal. Luck is definitely the better pro prospect though. And James at Oregon is only a sophomore so he can't go pro until after next year. NFL requires 3 years out of h.s., Luck redshirted as a freshman so he's eligible. I think that Range Rover was like an 02 or 03 iirc.

i think newton might lose a couple votes, but it all depends on teh NCAA. if they clear him (which it sounds like they did) then the heisman committe wont have to worry about pulling the award like they did with bush. i'm sure auburn will make sure the voters know if they will have to worry about the award being rescinded.

Yeah it was an 03. It's just the bling factor that athletes love.

I'll have to dig up the article I read about a former agent. College athletesall get paid one wayor another. These schools make a metric ton off cash off of them. It's just about as much pressure as the pros without any of the perks.

    Get your facts straight.

The James family has a friend who lives in Portland Oregon, they have known him for years. Lamichael was being stalked and so he traded his 2000 Mustang for the friend's 2003 Range Rover with 96,000 miles on it. The vehicle was registered on campus and the universities compliance officials blessed it.

Then, sometime after this, an Oregon State fan.. I mean, an anonymous concerned person, contacted the NCAA to express their concern, James has since been cleared of any wrong doing by the NCAA

Oregon football: LaMichael James cleared by NCAA for use of friend's vehicle | OregonLive.com

Seriously man, we're Oregon. If we wanted to buy James a car it wouldn't be seven years old and we would have had the resources to keep it under wraps...

    Yeah....... rightt...........

The guy was confirmed as not a principal associate of the University of Oregon, and not a booster/agent. Don't act like I didn't get the exact details out of the same article. I just read between the lines. Come on. You and I both know this.

And I am a partial oregon fan. I have family/friends at eugene, so I root for them. But that being said, the level of transparency they operate at is very very high. Although lamicheal is talented, he's also a fucker that chocked out and repeated threw his gf to the ground last year. He's under strict scrutiny, especially since his team is possibly going to the bcs championship pending a domination at the civil war game.
