Maybe all of your grounds aren't connected. I forgot to hook up the one that goes to my transmission, and although the car starter would crank, the engine wouldn't turn over. There aren't any ground wires going to the distributor, I'm pretty sure, unless it's in the wiring harness.

You are right. That is weird. Like I said check all related wiring and especially the grounds and wires at starter. Remember-just because they are attached doesn't mean you necessarily have a good connection(rust, corrosion, loose).
