someone wired up the reverse light switch to where there should be a different sensor. not sure which one, but that's the only thing i can think of that would cause that sort of thing. look at the connector for the reverse switch, see what it's plugged into, then look for another sensor that looks rigged up (they will likely have cut off the wiring on both plugs and rigged them together.)
