Wasn't there a large natural disaster a couple years ago in Japan that wiped out most of Honda's production capability?

I seem to remember something about a tsunami, or an atomic bomb, or something like that -- maybe both.

It's cheaper for Honda to build cars in the same market that they sell them in. Import fees, currency fluctuation, and shipping costs add to this. The earthquake did significant damage to the R&D center there. I went 1.5 years after the quake, and there was still cracks in walls and reconstruction going on. Honda's ECU supplier got wiped off the map. This hampered production for like 6 months. No car factories were damaged.

Honda almost tied the all time sales record from 2007 this past year. Americans are hardly sick of them. Honda doesn't make much that is appealing to a tiny minority. Hopefully this changes with the next Civic.

Hopefully the new civic looks better. Also make dual climate controls standard.

I really find this hard to believe.

In the mid 90s, all you saw were accords and civics in parking lots.

Today, all you see is altimas.

Maybe it's different in different areas, but by pure 'what I see in the real world', Honda has lost significant marketshare.

At my office it's civics and accords as far as the eye can see.

    Interesting.

Seriously, If I drove a silver/grey Altima, I would never find my car leaving work every day in the parking lot. I don't know how those people do it.

    Altimas and Mazda 3s

Out of the 8 cars that usually park in the parking lot at my apt there are 3 altimas

There are 3 civics on my street. New ones. 2 of them are SI's.

At the office there are a few Hyundais, BMWs, toyotas and a slew of American cars. Just 1 beater civic hatch.
