how to check if it works

how can i tell if the ecu works before i put the engine in can i put the ecu in the car now and see if the car starts and tell if it works? i have a p28 and i am running on a 97 civic can i plug it into the civic and see if it runs?

you need a jumper harness, you will get a check engine light, check the codes, if its just a solid code(doesn't blink) then the ecu is bunk
