Ok so i have a guarenteed job lined up for Thursday at $54000 year.

My old job who i was going to temp for just called me and said they would pay $30/h full time and let me work 5 hours o/t a week and eventually if i wanted when they had auth to hire, employee me as a company employee but not at the $30/h my best guess is would be at $56-58k/year. It's a longer drive by about 10-15 minutes but they are also more then employers they are friends and will let me have time off whenever i want...let me go home early etc, obviously if i was temp it would be unpaid, but when i am hired full time its paid....

They are 99% sure they can hire me as a full time employee by the end of the year but at $30/h with O/T i really am in no rush

What do i do! i've already told the other job i accepted and suppose to start thursday!

well in this industry....nothing is really secure...The Temp job is expecting business to boom from an influx of new accounts and they are national...and have been around for 100+ years...the Perm job is a small 1 state 1 building company who only handles 1 line of business and has been in business for 27 years but is hiring 2 people me and another person to add on not replace someone...

    take the permanent one.

next time, don't start work the same week you get the offer. ALWAYS start 2 weeks after the offer. you never know what could happen. Plus it gives you time to prepare and relax after a hard job search.

i actually did the math using paycheck calculater..my montly take home will only be $2998.22 with the perm job and $3866.24 with the temp job.....i can't pass that up..its to much to throw away....there are percs to the temp job...I know them very well..they are friends...they will be able to hire me eventually...free D&D coffee...no dress up i can wear shorts and sneakers....they love me already so they let me go home early..or let me take days off

Down fall is 10-15 minute drive further...thats really it....

real jobs have free coffee, that isn't really a perk. taking unpaid days off is not a perk, that is standard practice. going home early is not a perk, it's standard practice.

you are choosing a slight bump in pay and friends over security and ease of commute.

    choose wisely.

does the temp job have benefits/health insurance? 401k? match?

you can't go straight $ to $ on a temp/consulting basisi vs a full time gig. it's not 100% money to money.

    take whichever job you want,
    get EVERYTHING in writing.
sign contracts showing what they are promising.

they may be friends, but business and friendship do not mix.
when its work time, business comes before friends, when its off time, the opposite is priority.

take the temp, but get in writing any guarantees and promises.
who knows, when it comes time to actually hire, they may shove you aside for another individual and leave you in the cold, so get in writing that you are to be the next hire when the time comes.

    contracts save lives.

    first question
is 30k an hour cash money 1099? or do they both withhold taxes equally?

54000 vs 62400 (base assuming $30 an hour)
5 hours OT adds 11,700 for a total of 74100
    both figures are before taxes

but remember this is the company that just fired you for fucks sake...
whats the beni's at both jobs?
health insurance will run you at least $300 a month out of pocket

edit: i just say your prediction for your annual salary at the temp job
i would go with the one that just spent hours and hours interviewing and finally hired you
seems they are serious about expanding and put in some quality time to find people they feel will be a good fit to their company.
its not worth the short term cash in my opinion
