So I was looking through popular mechanics lastnight night, the issue that has the 100 best inventions or some shit...

saab has a car that runs on ethanol now, 148 hp on gas, but when it smells ethanol it cranks up the boost for something like 189 hp...

honda has changed their hybrid design by using flat wire instead of round wire, allowing them to put more wire in the electrical motor/generator resulting in gains...

but the real winner was the VW. they sell a car in europe now thats only 1.4 liter but has a supercharger AND a turbocharger...

supercharger increases the low end torque from the small displacement motor and then the turbo smashes more air into the tiny motor...

cool that they come like that straight from the market, but not a new concept by any means..

:shrug2:

Wasn't there an STi posted on here awhile back that was supercharged and twin turbo or some other ungodly waste of money?

well, its def not a NEW idea, but its the first production car I've ever seen with it

and it also should be noted that this was done for economy, and not necessarily performance reasons...

Old-school diesels have been using compound turbo-charging for a while. It really hasn't taken off as far as automotive stuff yet. Most twin-charged cars are either one-offs, or expensive race cars (a'la Lancia S4).

An older Meguiars show car tried twin charging with a JR supercharger and an HKS turbo kit.
