hey everybody, I just bought a 95 gsr shell that had the motor and basically all the drivetrain stolen. I am trying to figure out what motor I should drop in to get it running. I was either thinking of dropping in a b20 and turboing it, or else taking the b16 out of my crx and putting it in, just to get it running. Anyone have any suggestions? I am trying to keep it relatively cheap.

Do you actually read posts all the way through before you comment?

Anyways, if you're looking for cheap, than yeah, an LS or B20 is going to be the cheapest route. If you don't need your CRX to run then the B16 would work too, although it's a little low on the torque side.

I would really like to do the b20, but I cant find anywhere to get a usdm version. Know where to get one in the midwest? Shipping a jdm one over is like half the cost of the motor

Shipping from Hmotors was only $165 the last time I bought from them.

I don't think the B16 would be that great of an option on the Integra, but it will make it run if that's your main concern. I would agree that an LS or a B20 would probably be the best bet for you if cost is a factor.

alright that definitly makes it more reasonable to get a jdm one. I have been searching for awhile, and still havent found a definite answer on what power level a stock b20 can handle. I have seen some people say that you need to sleeve and get headstuds before going above the stock power level. Is a block guard a weak substitute for sleeving?

so you mean to tell me that its impossible to build a nice all motor ls/vtec on a budget? when he has the head for it already? just like anything that you do to a car, for the most part its all done in stages....

if you plan on building the motor in the future, i would just go ahead and spend the money on getting the block sleeved the first time rather than having fun for a while with just a block guard, and then your block cracking below where the block guard sits.... just my .02

I found a b18a1 for sale around me for 450 with tranny and ecu. I am thinking I am going to get this instead. Anyone know where a cheap place to get a hydro-cable converter?

I guess it's not impossible, but when I hear "monster all-motor setup" I'm thinking of a fully built N/A motor, which is definitely NOT cheap. He said he just wanted a cheap solution for now that he could possibly boost later. In that respect, your answer didn't really make sense.

Anyone see any problems with dropping a b18a1 into my 95gsr and then boosting it?

The B18A1 is from the 90-93 Integra RS, LS, and GS models. It's very similar to the B18B1 (which is what you'd find in the 94-01 RS/LS/GS). It's a non-VTEC dual cam B-Series engine.

That would work, yeah, but a non-VTEC B18 in a GSR just seems like a downgrade to me. Those early B18s only make like 130 horses.

Anyways, I know for sure that Hasport makes hydro to cable converters. I know other companies do too but I can't think of any at the moment.
