My friends 280z! Help!!

Well here is the situation, they were driving in third gear and the car starts to bog or sputter on them. Before the car pulled over, they said that they saw some black smoke coming out of the tailpipe.

Now the motor would turn over but not start up... I haven't been able to look at the car yet until morning but I told them to check fuel and spark and not sure if this car used fuses.

Any help would be appreiciated. Thanks in advance!!!!....

blown rod/rod bearing id assume or blown rings. its probably gonna be a pretty huge problem. Sounds exactly like what happened when i blew the H23 in my car...bog bog bog...BOOM (black smoke) then the car never cranked up. I saw coolant leaking on the ground, so i thought head gasket since id never touched a car before that moment. Then i let a friend look at it, and he pointed out the rod sticking out the side of the block.

Black smoke usually means something is burning oil horribly (valve seals/rings/rod scoring the walls).

Some black smoke? or alot? some could have been the carb flooding out... alot means kaboom.

did they hear any bangin or clanging?

280Z's don't come with carbs...

Well we couldn't figure it out so he just took the car to a shop. see what the can do.
