Well as some may remember I was, am, and always will be a domestic muscle car enthusiast at heart. And I think everyday my Civic plots on how to punish me for it. Im leaving work today all packed up and ready for the longish road ahead back home to Columbus. I let the car warm up as I check the fluids, tire pressure, etc. since its 4am and still a bit cool out. Everything checks out ok and I head off. As I leave the belt squeals a bit as it has before when cold and quits a few seconds later. No biggy. A few miles down the road I notice a new dummy light on. Battery. Well shit... Wonder what that could be, sigh. Pull into a gas station and what do you know?! no alternator belt. It actually makes it home which surprised me with my luck. And I now type this out while waiting on the parts store to open. There goes my decent arrival time and here come some Monsters and a 5 hour energy. This after I just treated my bastard baby to a nice Password JDM Carbon Kevlar intake and a Royal Purple oil change. What next? A blowout in Middle of Nowhere, Indiana? That's everyone's que to knock on wood. Not too bad but FML. Sorry about the last 5 minutes of your life, I guess I'll owe you.

Shitty stuff, but we've all been there. I've had much worse things happen to vehicles while I was driving them lol.

I appreciate it but im taking the 65/70 route. I wouldn't wanna put you through that drive. Again much appreciated. Oh you mean like dropping a valve or two a month after you buy a car (can you guess which one lol) and mere days before you're set to pack up and move to chicago in the dead of winter with only a GSXR as an alternate mode of transportation? ha, yea we've all been there. just thought id share to pass the time. Store should be open in a bit. I should be on the road soon after as the necessary tear down is complete and waiting.

Did you know that a 99 civic will reliably run with the battery down to 8.5V?

The newer civics, with EPS and traction control will run reliably down that far too, if you don't mind fighting the steering wheel when the EPS kicks in and out.

    EDIT:
    Please, don't ask.

That one is all on you. A belt squeeks, you need to investigate. A new alternator belt is only like $10. And a 15 minute fix, if you aren't in the middle of nowhere. Take care of your car and it'll take care of you. Ignoring minor maintnence will always bite you in the ass at the worst possible moment.

Ok, I'm done chewing ass, you already paid your dues. :D

    Have a better trip!

    Haha, yeah.

I want old cars. Screw this digital-ized shit. It's just gonna give SkyNet the edge.

Which is why I'm a opponent of EPS, yes it's more efficient, but they need to work out the bugs a bit better, or at least let me disable it.

you have to remember that your car is almost 10 years old. the point where shit will start to wear out. belts, joints, bushings, axles, etc. routine maintenence is the key. and you really need to give everything a good inspection from here on out.

I was gonna ask, is it the original belt? I had my belt replaced at 65k just because of this reason. I figure spending the 40 (I can't recall the exact cost... don't quote me on that and tear my head off) on a new belt now would save me money and a headache down the road if it did spin off.

I made the trip ok. Took a litle longer than usual (6ish hours) as there was a lot of traffic with even a couple stand stills. I avoided one by detouring through some little town Lebanon, IN. Garmin FTW! I even got an average of 32-34MPG which is an increase of 2-4 since the last trip.:D Cant say I can fully attribute that to the intake but I'm sure it helped. Thats pretty decent especially taking in to consideration the stop-n-go MPG killer.

I believe they are the original belts from the JDM swap. It had 25-35k on it. They looked good so I left them on. I think the belt was on too tight and caused a lot of friction as there was barely any flex in the P/S belt also. I have since fixed that. I know the woes of a 10 year old car as I got the Camaro when it was around that age. It just takes time and money. Ive got the time but Im still working on the money. Now I gotta find out whether I gotta get my rotors turned, replaced, or what ever else is shaking them on deceleration. The power steering rack end bushing is next, As is a set of motor mount and tranny bushings.

I took 294>65>485>70. It was only a couple miles around a bend of 65. Took about 8-10minutes due to a couple lights mid day traffic and 30mph speed limits.
