Obd Conversion Necessary?

The way my swap was done is that we did not do the OBD conversion. So therefor there is no oil pressure switch hooked up on the vtec solenoid. Is this OBD Conversion necessary from 0-1 for the vtec to operate properly, or can i just use a vtec controller and no oil pressure switch?? Or can i just get the oil pressure switch and tap into certain parts of the ecu (PM6 stock si ECU) without converting to obd 1?
