Alright, so I got my valve cover powdercoated at a local shop. It turned out real nice, and I was really happy with how it looked. This was about a week and a half ago. Today, I'm detailing my engine bay, using simple green and water to wash off gunk and some oil that got out when I swapped the valve cover on. After I get done washing things down, I turn on the car and let it run for a while to dry up the engine bay. When I come back out, turn off the motor, and pop the hood, I notice that the valve cover looks like complete shit!! The powder coating looks like it evaporated in spots, and now the whole thing just looks like a crappy spotted mess...
My question is did I screw it up, or did the shop not let it cure correctly? They told me that they baked it and let it cure properly, plus, it sat around at the shop 3 days before I picked it up and installed it, and then I drove the car around for about a week before I attempted to clean it, so I figured it should have been fully dried by that time...
Am I just stupid and didn't know that you can't clean powder coated parts with typical engine cleaners?? Or does it sound like the shop f---ed something up??
